The sky was full of dark clouds when I entered the building near 505 N. Akard St. Two hours later, meeting over, and a much clearer sky making for a drastic change in the light.
This address on Akard – 505 N. Akard St. – I mention for a reason: it's where Whaling Wall 82 (or Ocean Life) lived at the time, and lived for around 27 years before being painted over to make room for the 2026 FIFA World Cup promotions. I remember enjoying this piece every day when I first started working in Downtown Dallas not long after it was first painted.
My plan this evening was to loosely follow the DART Green Line so I could hop on the train as soon as I was ready to head home. This is one of the great things about having public transit widely available: you're not beholden to where you last parked your car. I suppose services like Uber and Lyft provide the same benefit, albeit for a much higher price.
I really don't have much to say in this post, but I suppose if you give me an opportunity to take a dig at Dallas, I will do so. So, there sure are a lot of highways and parking lots running through downtown. It's as if Dallas either doesn't understand how to build a vibrant downtown, or it can't figure out how to actually make it happen.
I ended the night not far from this location on Oak Lawn shown below. Heading to the outskirts of downtown and looking in from random places makes for interesting enough views which might very well lead to a mini photography project of its own.
